Brazil Film Fest 2026 Film Reviews

by Hudson Moura

The Brazil Film Fest Toronto returns from October 9 to 11 with a programme reflecting the diversity of contemporary Brazilian cinema, from historical drama and comedy to documentary, thriller, and films engaging with the country’s social and cultural realities.

A particularly significant feature of this year’s edition is its focus on short films connecting Brazil and Canada: the shorts presented before the feature films are either Brazil–Canada co-productions or Canadian productions centred on Brazil or involving Brazilian artists and film professionals. This initiative creates an important space for filmmakers working between the two countries and highlights the growing cultural and professional exchange between Brazilian and Canadian cinema.

Below, you can read my reviews of selected films from this year’s programme and my critical perspective on the festival.
